Back spacing

I am buying new rims and tires soon and I need some help guys. I am finally getting rid of my piece of shit 17inch rims and tires. I am puttin Weld Rodlites on. On the rear should I use a 15x8 or 15x9 for a 275-15 drag radial and what backspacing should I get so i wont rub anywhere? On the front I will be puttin on over the winter SN-95 brakes. Can I run a 15 inch rim with those brakes. I was told by someone that I have to us ea 16inch rim. That is fine but I just want to know. If not I will go 15's all the way around, if not I will go 15 in the rear and 16 in the front. Also what backspacing if any will I need for the front? Thanx in advance...

15x8 = 5.5" backspace
15x9 = 6.0" backspace
15x10 = 6.5" backspace

You will most likely have to do some minor clearancing to the inside of the wheel well with the 15x8 and 15x9 wheels. With a 15x10 you need to bust out the 3lb mallet.

As for the front, I believe you need a small wheel spacer to run the 15" wheels.......at least on the Cobras you do. Backspace will depend on rim width. A 15x3.5 wheel will need 1.75 backspacing.

I dont plan on doin skinnies up front. I am gonna run a 6 inch wide rim with like a 225-60 on it. So if thats the case and I am gonna do the SN-95 brakes do I need to run a 16 up front? If so what spacing will I need for that?

Good question. You will probably have to take some measurements.

I have a set of 17x9 for all the way around and they dont rub. I have a set 99 15' v6 wheel on it until i get it painted and they fit fine over the front sn95 front spindles I am not sure what the back spacing is but i can mesure it if you need me too i had to remove the quad shock they don't do anything anyway.I will tell you 16" tires are more then 17" kinda a odd size.

I have 15x10 wheels in back with 6.5 backspace. I run a 28x10.5 slick. I stretched my factory wheel wells a few inches because I planned on running a 29.5x10.5W tire at some point in time but for the wheel and tire combo that I have on the car now it is unnecessary to stretch the wheel wells but you would need to modify the inner wheel well with a 3lb sledge hammer.

Good info. So with the same tire on a 15x8 or 15x9 would you still need to massage the inner fender well? What springs do you run at each corner?

thanks man also is it the stock width rearend do you run height adjustable control arms or did you lower it at all. I purchased eibach drag launch springs and lakewood 50/50 fronts 70/30 rears just wanting to know how you acheived that stance cause dam it looks good.

My rear end is 3/4" shorter than a stock rear end on each side. I run coil overs all the way around and the car is lowered about 4 inches from the factory ride height.

and now for my next question are the specs you gave for the rims for your application only or will they work with the stock width diff or would i need to narrow it so as to clear the outer fender well, since i would like to get as wide a slick as possible without a tub ,also do you use factory control arms or did you four link it or ladder bar it thanks man awesome info very much appreciated

I wouldn't put a 28x10.5 tire on anything smaller than a 10" wheel. Maybe a 9" but not an 8". Thin sidewall tire tend to be more unstable at high speeds on a smaller wheel. Either way you need to modify wheel wells. I run 90lb springs in the rear and 130lb springs in the front.

Those are the same size rims and tires I use on all my Mustangs. Fender lips will need to be rolled and the inner wheel wells will need some clearancing. Not a big deal at all. I run a stock suspension with Team Z Motorsports control arms.
