Everyone gives a different amount of horsepower for a cold air intake mainly because its hard to put a hard number on one.

If your engine air intake is terribly restricted in the way it is setup now and you go from that to a functioning cold air intake you will definately gain some power but how much depends on your other mods, the ambient air temperature, your elevation, your fuel air mixture, etc.

Also you will gain greater benefit from one during the winter when its scooping in 10 degree air then you would say during summer where you have 85 degree air coming in. But even 85 degree air is preferable to 110 or more underhood temperature air that you might be sucking up now.

When I used to race my supercharged t-bird (supercoupe) I would use a custom intercooler packed with dry ice at the track to give me up to an additional 4/10s of a second and 4 mph to my ET. However I was running a larger blower pulley for additional boost and the supercooling ability of that dry ice (dry ice has a surface temperature of -109.3 degrees Fahrenheit (-78.5 degrees C)) was a huge benefit for the 13 lbs of boost or so I was running. I also had a cold air induction that routed outside air on that car.

Is it worth spending the money to get one? Well thats up to you. I dont have a cold air induction on my mustang, but then theres alot of parts I am still considering getting.

Seat of the pants I would say a cold air induction is prolly worth 3-7 horsepower at higher rpm, if your current intake is restrictive. But like I said alot of factors could change that number and if you have a motor making big power that has an inlet restriction and you get rid of that restriction, you will see a bigger result.
