the LX had a grill in the nose above the bumper, the GT did not.

The 85-86 gt an lx had grills in them and I have seen lx and gt with sunroofs as far as the t tops go I do belive 82 to 88 where the only years for ttops and they cam few and far between on lx and gt in hatch backs or notchback although i am unable to get any real numbers on these the notchbacks are very rear if you find one buy it NOW!!! as they will be worth the money

On another note everyone nos the 79 was the first year for the fox but 82 was the first year for the gt did anyone no that they in 94 ford was going to scrap the mustang and call the prob the mustang IV what a waste that would have been.

All cars from 79-93 are based off the same platform maening you can take th quarter windows out of a 93 and they will bolt right up to a 79 . Tha only real thing they changed where bolt on parts ie fenders wider opening for bigger tire bumpers side skirts and such wich is great i cant think of any other car that has so many parts avalible oem and aftermarket to choose from

5.0 specific:
The 5.0 version of the LX and GT were 100% identical engine, suspension, brakes, and interior wise with the exceptions noted below:

- Exterior flexible body moldings pieces (or "ground effects"). LX did not have them, the GT did, the LX had a grill in the nose above the bumper, the GT did not.
- Rims
All 91-93 5.0's had the 16in 5 spoke pony wheels (the special service LX model may have had a 10 hole as an option, not sure)
87-90 GT had the 15 in turbine wheels, the LX had the 15in 10 holes (with the exception of the special edition 1990 "7-UP" LX convertible that had the turbine wheels)
- Exhaust - LX had polished SS tips, GT had SS turn downs

I am a little hazy on the t-tops and sunroof option differences between the GT and LX 5.0.

Does all of this sound correct?
The major difference between the sunroof and t-top option is the sunroof was a hole in the roof with one glass and the t-tops were two peices of glass. Sorry it was too good to pass up. Yes, everything you said sounds right on the money.

Correct, I should have noted that my comparisons were only for the 87-93 models.

I have a 91 with a factory sunroof, I did not want it but I bought it new in late 91 when the 92's were already on the lot and I did not have much of a choice so late in the model year.
A few more notes but not really relevent and probably noted elsewhere but...

1991 was the last year for the 12 month/12 thousand mile "bumper to bumper" warranty, 1992 and on had 36/36. 1991 was also the last year for the pull out leg support on the seat and the metal dongle dome light. 1992 added power seats.
My 88 has a low fuel light and a remote fuel door opener. In 1991, neither of those were available. I'm almost positive you can see the outline of a low fuel light in bright sunlight in the dash of my 91 though, when was that taken away?

and just to let you know..its way over a 50lb weight dif..that damn fog light bracket weighs 60lb itself..bout another 30 for ground effects and the front and rear bumpers total another 15-20lbs..

bout 110lb or so dif..and adding a fiberglass spoiler to an LX gets you another 15lbs, rear seat delete 50lbs..you can shed so much with these cars..

and yes

Hatch's were GT and LX's
Notch's were Only LX's
LX had 2.3 and 5.0
GT had only 5.0
T-Tops and Moon Roofs were offered to ALL Mustangs..
