install on bbk h pipe

tonight i installed my bbk o/r h pipe everything was going great until i started the car and relized i had a big exhaust leak on the passenger side where the h pipe meets the header. due to fords wonderful donut design the pipes always leave a void for air to rush out of. i pulled the header off in hopes on correcting the problem, but i ran out of daylight. is there a metal filler piece or some type of gasket i can use to resolve this issue? i dont have transmission hangers for the exhaust they have been removed so that made things a touch easier but still have a nasty leak. i would love to hear some opions on this..thanks in advance!!

yes its leaking where the header and the h pipe connect ( collector ) the bbk doesnt provide gaskets and when i called ford to buy some they said they never installed gaskets on the mustangs at the the collector.

This may seen dumb but could the other side be too tight and not allowing the leaking side to make good contact? Try loosing up the non leaking side and then tightening both sides a little at a time.

Its easier to get the h pipe lined up if you have the rest of the exhaust already bolted up where it should be. A small misalignment of the h pipe throws the whole thing off and you could end up with a tail pipe hitting the axle or rubbing on the tire. I haven't done that on my Mustang but I have on one of my cars with a single exhaust. I ended up having to loosen the two ball connectors, lining the entire exhaust up where it should be and then tightening everything back up together. Hopefully his problem is that simple and not a malformed H pipe.

i have the same set up on my car.you do not need gaskets.you need a big prybar.they never line up right. i had long tubes and shorty pipe on my 331 and did the same thing,i cut the hangers then i pryed the h pipe apart a little to get it to line up.i also just did the same thing to my 351 bbk set up. there 2 bolt ball flanges that do not need gaskets, the ball on the header goes inside the cup on the h pipe.

today after numerous attempts at solving the issue. i purchased ultra copper sealant which helped on the collector flange. The rear flange that connects to the muffler seems to be about 1/2 and inch too short. im going to remove the rear section tomorow and try again

sometimes you can bend the hangers an it will shift it enough, just make sure your tailpipes are even.
