Crankshaft Help PLEASE!!
Alright, Im brand new to the mustang scene and Ive wanted one for quite some time now...Id taken a look at some foxbodies and recently found one for sale. Now before I get my hands dirty in this project, the car needs a new crankshaft to run...I was wondering the difficulty//expense//effort and all the other pro's//con's to swapping it out myself or having a shop do it for me?
If doing it myself is the best way possible, what exactly needs to be done for me to accomplish this? I mean grabbing one out of a junkyard and having it polished is an easy way and then bolting it up myself just so its in the car is another step forward. Then having a shop torque all the bolts and set the timing and all that other jazz wouldn't be so expensive. I mean how hard could it be...I have completely disassembled a V8 before (VH45DE out of a Q45). Do I need to look for certain things in certain years? I just need someone to tell me all the details behind this kinda thing

Well why does it need one spun bearings or what and th engine has to be pulled out totaly disasimbled oil pan pump rods. If you are going this far i woulld atleast rebuild the motor its not much fun to do and alot of work and you could proble buy a new one cheaper then geting one from a junk yard and having it machined and hoping its better then what you had if you can even find a scrap yard to sell you one most whant to sell the hole motor

sounds like a good time to buy a stroker rotating assembly, and take your motor to a machine shop.

Oh yea...I forgot to mention.
Money is some what of an issue as I will only be replacing and repairing these things from paycheque to paycheque. Being on a slim budget, I need this car to run for now until I can afford to rebuild//replace these parts. Im sure it does make some sense to just have a shop install a new crankshaft? |

you can always keep the pistons and rods but you might as well regasket it and put new rings on it. a gasket set will only run you like 60 bucks rings wil lbe cheap. you have to dissassemble the whoel block anyways. while your taking it apart you might even notice some oher problems other than the crank. so dont get your hopes up jsut thinking its the crank. youll be surprised what youll find wrong when you take the motor apart. i knwo your working on a budget but if you find something wrong othe than the crank it is your best interest to rebuild it man.
