I have a 1984 mustang 5.0 and am looking to putting on a set of the 17 inch cobra replica rims.

I am looking for some assistance in rim and tire size. Based on my reading it is my understanding that the best size tire for my year of car is a 235 45 17. The problem I am running to is that the rims only seem to come in a 9 inch wide. I have been told that if I put the 235 on a 9 inch rim tha it will look strange (the tire will be stretched). It should be put on a 8 inch rim.

Has anyone else used the repica rims and what size is recommended. rubbing is obviously the big issue. One tire place said I could put a 245 45 17 and not have any problems

I roll a set of 17X9 Cobra R's on my 93. I believe my tire size is 235/45/17 and I haven't had any problems at all. The tire doesn't look stretched. I believe you could go with the 245's and never have a clearance issue either. They actually sell this size (245's) in tire and rim packages on summit and jegs.
