darrel the moderator

Hello,
I have seen a couple of youre posts on the interent and you are very knowleagable, forgive me on my writing.Okay youre car is a awesome car, you have any videos? Alright here is my question, I am going to at least be running 400 to 500 horses.I would like to upgrade the rear end to a 9 inch rear end on my LX Fox.Bear with me, I have seen suspension set-ups where the coilovers are bolted to the roll cage inside the car, and are mini-tubbed, is this neccesarry for my car? And is there any DIY threads on how to mini-tub youre fox-stang and do that same coilover set-up? O the car is going to be a drag car on the streets, call me crazy if youd like.

Here is a link to videos - http://videos.mustangvideos.net/uploaded/380391.htm

Here is the most recent video of the car - http://www.rsdtv.net/flvplayer.swf?f...t=true&fs=true

At 400 to 500 horsepower there is no need for a 9". I'm over 700 horsepower and I'm no where near pushing the limits on my 8.8. Use good axles and parts and you will have no problems. You can run coil overs if you'd like but they are not necessary. I am only because I wanted to get rid of the stock springs for tire clearance.

I race alot at a street racing event. The timing equipment at the track is turned off so nobody knows what anyone runs just like if you were racing on the street. I had a nitrous kit on the car for a while last year and would purge it to make everyone watching think the car was a nitrous car. That way I would negotiate a race with someone and make the deal that I would take the bottle out and run on motor only. I suckered people in all the time However, when the car started running low 9s I wasn't concerned about suckering people in anymore I was more concerned about people actually knowing how fast the car was because it was very impressive for the combination. I was told by many "experts" that the car would be lucky to run mid 10s with my combination and their main reason was because I was running Trick Flow heads So I completely took the nitrous system off so people couldn't say "you aren't running naturally aspirated, you are spraying". I did spray the car a few times but it didn't perform all that well because the torque converter was so loose because it was designed for maximum performance naturally aspirated. On nitrous the converter slipped horribly. The car went the fastest naturally aspirated.

Everything in that link I posted is mine....well most of them I have since sold. That blue car used to be my daily driver and went 11.50s with a 5 liter that pulled down 25 mpg on the highway. I later built a 347 for it and it ran high 10s with a nitrous converter and tight gears. I never got a chance to spray that car because I bought a new project. The engine did end up in my black car for a while and ran 10.30s with a naturally aspirated set up. That engine is now in my brother in laws 95 Cobra.

Thank You Darrel for youre opinion, I have another question which no one has been able to answer me.What carburator is best for drag racing and remember this car is going to be on the streets.People have always been telling me about the Holley carburator's.But I have seen the holley 4500 dominator series carbs, pro's and cons about this carb. Can you provide the best carburator manufacturers out there? And difference between cfms' on carbs.Look total I have to spend on everything going in on my car is 10,000.

It made just over 400hp at the wheels. I build most of my engines and Charlie Sikes of The Race Shop does some work for me too.

Holley all the way. Last year I ran a Holley HP1000 4150 style carb. This year I'm running a Holley Ultra HP 1150 Dominator. Next year I might switch to EFI but now that I broke the engine I might just stick with the carburetor next year since I just stuck a couple thousand dollars into an intake and carb. I should have went with EFI this year like Charlie was trying to talk me into but I for some reason doubted his experience and thought carburetion would make more power and be the way to go.
