Head gasket

I blew my headgasket about a week ago .I bought the felpro mls head gaskets. They gave me a 4.200 bore size when a stock 302 is 4.000. Will this be ok.

wait when a engines bored .30 over, doesnt that calculate to a 4.030 bore..well if you're saying 4.200 that means a 200 overbore..or am i just that confused right now..and just have the engine bored to fit the gaskets now..

jpjp i think that the gasket being bigger than the cylinders, will make it leak..

it will work but I wouldnt use it personally, go get a 1011-1, a typical 1011 fel pro head gasket, .041 thick has a bore of 4.100, yes it will lower the compression

Don't worry about it, it might lower your compression from 9.20:1 to 9.18:1 or something like that. you talking about an additional 1/2 cc or less. It should work fine on you car.

OK, I did the calculation for you.

With a 64cc head on a 302 with a 4.1 head gasket and 0 deck and 0 chamfer you would have a 9.51 compression ratio.

Same combo with a 4.2 head gasket = 9.46:1

Mine are torqued to 125 ftlbs. But they are Cleveland heads, so.... anyway.

It depends on what heads you are using, what gasket, etc...but 70 ftlbs sounds about right for a stock motor.

Also, don't forget to do a retorque...most head gaskets these days let you do a cold retorque, but you should read the instructions that should have come with the head gasket.
