Straight Pipes?

I just put straights on my 4.6 but my buddy likes how mine sounds, so he wants to do the same with his 92 LX, 5.0. I got him an appointment. Will it sound good? or not?

What do you mean by straight pipes? No mufflers? Mid-pipe with no crossover tube?

Yea just take out the mufflers and put a crush bend in the pipe you put in place of the mufflers so you dont lose too much back pressure

No mufflers? Sounds like a dump truck and you like it?

I have "straight" pipes on my (yall be nice it's my fiances car!!!!) 78 monte carlo,383ci.The exhaust runs from the headers to an "H" pipe to a glass pipe on each side then on out the back.Man that car sounds so sick.I've scared off potential "racers" just revving it in nuetral!!!!!On the other hand my 87 gt has a flowmaster force 3 cat-back system on it and it sounds good.Once i ditch the cats and put headers on it i'm sure it'll sound like it should!!! If you go with "straight" pipes you have to put an"H" or"X" pipe assembly on it or you lose too much back pressure and well you know what that means. And yes a 5 ohhh has enuff throat to sound good with "straight" pipes if its done right!

Someone else posted this link but I still think about it everytime I see a comment about engines needing backpressure, heh.

Your friend can go with straight-through pipes using exhaust inserts from Car Chemistry to "tune up" that drone noise generated from removing the mufflers. Read this article http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...ts/index.shtml

They're expensive though. Summit Racing carries those.
