don't convert to carb.
you would just be wasting gas. if anything convert to MAF. the abc Ford cams are over rated and old. they have a huge after market cam selection for your car. welcome to the forums.

You could run a b-cam... I have one in my 88 SD and it runs hard.
E-cam lift .498/.498 duration @.50 220/220 B-cam lift .480/.480 duration @.50 224/224

You can run any cam you want and any setup you want with speed density. The problem is, the computer will not correct for the new found airflow, so you you have to retune the fuel curve. Depending on how radical you get, you should be able to increase the fuel pressure to get it running strong. If that doesn't work you can have a custom chip burned for about the same price as converting to MAF.
The upside to converting to MAF or carb is that future modifications will not require a retune (most likely).
