T-5 Grinds second
I heard its a common problem grinding second when you trying to race. I was racing an 01 trans am today from a dig at a stoplight and the light turned green I let out the clutch and hit the pedal to the floor I was pulling him pretty hard but when I went to shift to second I was still in front of him by about 3/4 of a car and it grinds second and he takes off because I had to take it out then put it back in gear. But this isnt the first time its happend it does it almost every time I go and race someone when it matters. The only time it didnt happen was when I was racing a Vlokswagon Golf and thats when it wouldnt have matter if it did it because I beat him pretty bad anyway.
But my question is what causes this and can it be fixed with the tremec swap.

worn out synchros or bad driving skills...
If the former, yes a trans rebuild will help...if the latter, sorry, no new trans or rebuild will help.

maybe that you need a firewall adjuster to put some preload on the cable.

yes you can put a firewall adjuster on any clutch cable...and it is pretty easy.
I have used two different types, the one from BBK and the one from UPR. Both are pretty nice, I think I like the UPR one a little better because it can be locked into position, but the BBK one was easier to install. |

use a triple hook quadrant and a firewall adjuster (any firewall adjuster will do)with the stock cable since the aftermarket ones are not as good of quality as the ford ones.and just use the firewall adjuster to set the cable adjustment. to me it sounds like your not pulling the clutch in enough
