Well.... I went with a 331 because the people that built my engine said that 331's can handle higher rpms better than a 347. You could probably get a complete motor cheaper through d n' d motorsports. If you want to get a deal on one call 661 260 2226 and ask for dave. Tell him Ryan told you to call. They do new 302's as well it just depends on what you want.

Why can a 331 handle higher rpm better than a 347? My last 347 I shifted at 8500 rpm. It handled it just fine. This all goes back to people generating their own opinions of 347s like the how it is so bad for the wrist pin to intersect the oil ring land and how the rod to stroke ratio is so bad. What is funny is wrist pins have been intersecting oil ring lands since long before the 347 and the rod to stroke ratio of a 347 is better than the rod to stroke ratio of a big block Chevy.

But wouldnt it depend on how you have the engine set up? I mean Like I said when I first got on here I know alittle bit, but I am still learning Maybe I misunderstood the guys who did my engine maybe they meant that they will set my engine up to handle alittle higher rpm's or something you know? So what is the difference besides cubic inches between 331 or 347?

The difference is cubic inches. There is a 16 cubic inch difference so if you make 1.5 horsepower per cubic inch you would be giving up 24 horsepower and at least as much torque by choosing a 331 over a 347.

331 vs. 302?!

Get a 347 and use that extra space for max power. You only get one chance to make the right decision.

I have a 331 S/C and now I wish if I'd bought a 347 instead.

Darrel, were you running the 5.4 inch rod in the motor that ran to 8500?
