1988 5.0 rear end swap

Project: 1988 rear end and front axle swap

Anyone know if it's possible to swap a 96 GT rear end and front axles with the ones currently under my 88? My driver's side axle has the wobble syndrome. I think everything will fit just figured I would swap to 5 lug and disc brakes at the same time. Also if anyone knows the stock ratio on a 96 GT let me know. Is a 96 GT pos trac?

welcome to the forums.

I believe that the Axles are a bit long to fix in your car.
I would look for axles out of a 5-lug fox body to insure proper fit.

I believe the stock ratio is either a 2:73 or a 3:23 and it has a T-lock.

I want to get rid of rear drums or I would just get another axle and shim it up. What years did they make 5 lug on fox bodies? Also did any of them have disk or only the cobras? Thanks for the welcome and the quick response. R U thinking the front or rear axles are going to be to long? Trying to find another way to swap to 4 wheel disk 5 lug and keep post trac since the new kits are so expensive. Will probably go with 3:73 gears being this will be drove on the street as well.

i stand corrected.

just pulled this up:

1987 to 1993 Fox body 5.0 liter Mustangs can be easily upgraded to 5-lugs by simply installing 5-lug axles and drums from a Ranger or Bronco II in the rear and 5-lug brake rotors from a late 80's Lincoln Mark VII in the front.

I thought all foxes were 4 lug but HMUSN had me thinking I missed something. Come on need some input have to get rid of the wobble syndrome it's very annoying at around 50+...Would rather just do the whole conversion instead of replacing one axle. Any insight on swapping to 5 lug with disc brakes...I was almost certain the 96 GT rear and front axles would fit but need to know for sure before I pick them up.

and also if you get axels from a ranger you need two drivers side axels

Ok so the only way to do the swap is get 2 drivers side ranger axles? The driver's side axles are they for the front or back converstion, do they have disc brakes? If so what about the rear?

You dont need a tool for the springs jack up the car support the body jack up the axle unbolt shocks and brake line lower axle and springs will fall out with no problem.
