to be rebuilt or not to rebuilt

HI, i have a 1987 GT 5.0 E303, K&N, exhaust dumps, 373 gears everything else is stock it stared to smoke out the leftside (driverside) exhaust pipe it still has power.. is it time for a engine rebuilt. how much hp do you all think i am making with this engine

how many miles on the engine, do a compression test and if ur results are good, i'd leave it alone,,,

I agree w wildfaststang....may just need a head job....that didnt sound to good...heads reworked..or may have bad rings....My current motor has 198,000 on it...the only thig it has is an oil leak off the back fi the intake..compression tests were OK..shows some wear and tear. I have a 331 ordered and gonna use the TF upper Kit w heads cam and intake. I think it is just time for an overhaul! To do a compression test, there is a gague that you put into the spark plug holes, it will give a set amount of pressure, you check to see if it remains at that level, leaks slosly or leaks fast...check each cylinder.
