What Is This Pulley?

Im looking at the front of the block and I'm curious what the pulley underneath the alternator runs, It wasnt connected on the belt so idk what it is. If anyone has a diagram for the pulley/serpentine system for an 89 5.0 that would be awesome, thanks.

Should be the smog pump pulley, it's just been by-passed. Here's a diagram.

Smog pump is a waste, but you will need it if the check for emmisions in your state. I got rid of mine, and I use the small belt. If you ask for a belt for a car without A/C, that is the one that will work for you.

Remove the smog pump or "Air Pump" as the little pic on your frame would say and get the belt size 855k6 85.5" 6 ribbed

Look at the manufactuer belt size for your car/truck, removing the smog pump normally would knock off about 7-10 inchs to be close.

Like mine which calls for a 77, I took the smog pump out and I had to get a 855k6

If your smog pump was deleted/by-passed Chadderkdawg you might wanna see if they bloked off the pipes on the back of the heads and blocked off where it runs down to the collector or you might burn up some important shizit bro!
Drew why buy the delete kit for the smog pump when you can just by-pass it and use the money for the A/C delete kit!!!!!!!
I just wrapped a piece of string around how the belt was suppost to go and marked it and brought it to the auto parts store and said "gimme a belt this long dude!"

alright, so if i want to bypass my smog pump, will i have to take it off, or just dont put the new belt around it? I wont do this unless there are performance gains in it, but i dont need my smog pump with the no emissions, and i plan on getting an o/r x in a week or two.

From what i've been told there is no real performance gains and i would recommend deleting the cats along with the smog pump as the pump helps warm the cats up so they perform properly.Unless you are looking to lose like 20lbs i can say you most likely feel ant difference in power.Me, i feel anything that the crank pulley has to turn but the water pump and alternator need not be there (A/C,power steering included!).
It would almost be pointless to just by=pass the pump and not take it off because you'll have to plug the holes in the back of the heads, plug off the tubes that run down to the collector and cap the vacuum lines as well.Like i said ,if you aint a hardcore dragger or just like me an dont wanna lose even 1 pony to belt drag there is no benefits to smog pump delete! Good luck though

ok, i just put on my new underdrive pulleys, and i thought that since i was already in the area i would try to get a few more horses, but it sounds like it isnt worth it. Thanks for the answer though, i didnt really understand the smog pump, but this car will eventually be a drag, just not yet.
