Track Times

Hi guys,
So thursday of last week I went to the track to run some 1/8ths just to check out what I am suppose to be running versus what I am. MAN was I suprised... I did horrible 10.01 @ 72.3 mph with a 2.27s 60' time.

I have 3.73s, welded in subframes, Ford C springs, Cobra wheels wrapped in yokahoma 520s, Pro 5.0 shifter, BBK LT headers, and a 3 pt front strut bar; and I know that its my 60' time thats KILLING ME! but how can I get it all this power to the ground with out burning my tires away the things are harder than diamonds and even when hot they stick very little, heck the 520 is the wear rating for the tires!

I also had a clogged radiator cause it overheated on the way back.... so can anyone suggest a good radiator in the $150 range?

I am considering finding some slicks on crappy rims that are used... anyone know of some cheap ones in the Charlotte, NC area?

Thanks.

lol that is kind of funny lol... yea its the 1/8th mile and my traps indicate that I am making ok power, I just suck at launching on anything but a 2 step w/ slicks... I had an '04 mustang prior to this one with all the goodies on it and I have become so use to that I have basically forgotten the tips of how to really launch a car.

BTW my '04 hit a tree, Rain + Non-DOT Drag Radials= Big Ticket + Totaled Car

HAH Your 60- foot times sound kinda good for stock tires. I would do an avg of 2.4 60-foot times....with 295/50 15 tires. So i got some M/T drag radials and it hooks ALOT better. LCA's and Drag springs should also help alot.

I was thinking about getting some air shocks so I could pump them up at the track hopefully find a way to slow the slam on the rear tires a little until I find so better tires... the sucky part is I JUST bought these because I was told they were decent tires, so I dont want to spend a crap load of tires I use two or three times a month?

How hard is it to build your own REAL 4 link? cause I know the Ford design likes to torque bind the UCAs... I dont even think Ive looked into drag springs come to think of it. who makes them?and how much are they?

Really??? you suck

My best out of 4 runs with a stock suspension on 225 all season tires was a 1.8 60 foot time

the trap speed seems pretty low... and the 60 foot is terrible, to put it into prospective, I pulled a 2.2 60 foot by simply blowing the tires off at 6000 RPMs.

I think 80+ mph through the 1/8th is in the 13.5 second 1/4 mile range.

Try a controlled but fast release off the clutch at different RPMs. Like start at 3000 rpms and quickly release the clutch. If you overpower the tires, go down a few hundred rpms and try again. If you hook up good, but bog the motor, go up a few hundred rpms. Repeat until you find the limit of your tires. Also it might help to air down a little, maybe 25 PSI with radials??

hell launching at stock auto at idle i can cut high 2.1s...

I would slip out of the hole and then punch it...i think you'd see some better results that way...

well I started off like I would from a stop light and quickly increased the throttle to 100% within the first 10' for the first time. the second time I attempted to pre-load at 1400 rpm but ended up bogging down... and we only had time for 2 runs and the second run was like a 10.47 vs the first being a 10.01.

I would start by revving to 3000 rpms and quickly release the clutch at the same time you mash the gas to the floor.

That is basically how I launch my car (except at 5000 rpms).

Are you doing a burnout. Hard radials respond to a 10 second burnout pretty well. Count to yourself in the water box, 1 one thousand, 2 one thousand...etc.. until you get to ten. Then immediately stage.

i personally drive around the water box and just bark my tires to get any debris off and then stage...

no I have not been doing 10s long burnouts maybe 2 or 3 seconds, however I will try that next time.

do you think a 2 step rev will help out even with me still running on radials or drag radials? eventually I am going to get slicks.
