take off in first, when you want to shift into second, shift up into D, then shift back down into 1 as it starts to grab the gear...that is now second...when you want to shift into third, just shift it up into D....

Is yours pretty much all stock ?mine is with a few mods,3" exhaust, air bags,180 thermo, how much timming do you run? Yours make more power at 5000 in each gear?mine has a 327 gear and posi. a home made air intake system.what kind of time should i be looking for? What rpm do you take off at?

mid 14s maybe...

no mine isnt stock anymore...i have ported gt40 heads, explorer intake, b303 cam, 4:10s, LTs, 2.5" H pipe and flows dumped.

my HP numbers in my sig are with exhaust and pullies...it ran i believe a 14.7 with those mods, and a 15.2 bone stock with 185,000 miles on the car...I am now into the 13s...

my transmission is still stock...i have a shift kit but haven put it in yet...i had a small stall 2200-2800, but decided to sell it and go with a 3500...so i am waiting to get more money and buy a nice stall.

My car on the dyno run made its peak HP at i believe 4000 RPMs, but i dont have the dyno sheet in front of me right now.

i see you are from Indiana man. I was born and raised in Corydon...if you know where that is at...

i sold my old converter.

Timing...i would fill your car up with 93 octane and try 14 degrees and see how you like it...if you hear any pinging, back off a couple degrees.

I've never taken a auto Mustang down the track but with those mods, I think shifting at 6000 seems a little high.
Either way, using a factory tach and a stock AOD makes the shifting a little hard to get exact.

I used to do that with my 88 notch back in HS and was told that doing that was bad. I still did it anyways and never had a single prob with it. So is it really bad?

I dont know...nothing bad has happened to mine yet...I do it all the time...i manually shift my AOD everywhere i go...it just sounds so damn good! lol

and Nolife: 6000 is really high, you wont be making any power with those mods...but i never read where anybody said shift at 6K...i said 5K

I was refering to ocd_stang in the first post of the thread. I assumed the mentioning of 6k was his desired shift point. Maybe I read that wrong.

Also a shift kit & a full manual valve body with a nice after market ratchet style shifter, say from Hurst or B&M, will give you exactly what you want.
