Solid motor mounts

What do you guys think about solid mounts or go with energy suspension or something like that?

They will give you a lil more power to the wheels reduceing the motor flex but the ride is going to suffer as well. I thought about doing this but i am going to get some good urethane ones and call it a day. if you dont mind a more viberant ride so to speak then go for it...

Get the Energy Suspension mounts for a street car unless you can tolerate the vibration from solid mounts. The gain is minimal at best.

you dont have to do anything with the trany mount but its recomended that what ever u go with for the motor mounts that you do the same with the trans.

i have solid motor mounts and the vibration is not that bad, and my car is a daily driver

I haven't noticed anymore vibration. A good engine balance will go a long way if you are going to run solids. If you have a lopey idle, you'll notice it more, but otherwise solids are fine on the street. Do run a urethane trans mount however, or you will get a lot of vibration through the shifter and some extra noise.

Engine balance has nothing to do with it. The vibration comes from steel mounts connected to a steel K-member. Good engine balance or not the vibration will be there because there is nothing to insulate between the engine and the chassis. Some people have no problems with solid mounts on the street but others are sensitive to vibration and don't like them.

So what you are saying is that a poorly balanced engine doesn't vibrate more than a precision balanced engine?? Come on Darrell, it seems like you get off on arguing.

My balanced 351 engine with solid motor mounts vibrates less than my stock 5.0 with worn out rubber mounts.

Yes a poorly balanced engine will create more vibration but that does not have anything to do with the topic. You are taking my comments out of context.

Lets try this again.......... With solid mounts you will have vibration regardless of how the engine is balanced. And like you said a poorly balanced engine will greatly increase the vibration even with rubber mounts and a rougher cam will also increase the vibration.

There is a reason factory motor mounts insulate the engine from the chassis. Because even bone stock engines vibrate. Darrell is correct.

Darkest hour, whenever you have questions that are answered by Darrell, I would listen to the man. He's built & raced more cars than most people have owned.

I'll just say it again for the record. My current set-up on my carb car with solid motor mounts vibrates less than any stock 5.0 I have ever driven.
