Cold air intake

This is probably a dumb question, but I recently installed the BBK intake on my 94 GT but almost immediately had problems with the MAF sensor getting all gunked up and not reading properly. My question is how often do I need to clean the filter and will the sensor be getting plugged up all the time? Also, the filter is in the wheel well, which to me seems very difficult to get at. Am I supposed to remove it from the top or underneath? Sorry if these are dumb questions but I had to ask

its not a dumb question. first of all the problem with the maf getting all gunked up is a common mistake people encounter all the time, because they put too much oil on the filter. actually it will ruin your maf and then you will be spending a couple hundred replacing it. if you are lucky, you can salvage the maf by cleaning the sensor wire with a q-tip and alcohol. you will need to remove your filter again, clean it and reapply the oil(very lightly) let it set for 20 minutes and see if youve missed any parts of it. to get to the filter, just pull some clips from your front right splash shield and bend it out of the way. make sure you orient the clamp so its easy to get a socket or long flathead screwdriver on it. take your time....
