whats better camlock or latch and can you leave the crotch belt off on a 5 point if you want to or do you have to wear it all the time.these are going in an everyday street car

I am not aware of a DOT approved 5-point harness, so it will not matter if you use the crotch belt or not, you'll still get a ticket if you get pulled over.

no aftermarket restraints are DOT approved. To many quality control issues and then installation is rarely done correctly. What might meet crash standards on one car, might not meet them on another car. On top of that, the company has to pay a lot of money to have their materials and products checked.

So stick with the stock belts for a street driver. If you need a cage in your car, that is a good time to go to 5/6 point harness.

You think they would be DOT approved because they are safer than stock belts

Only when installed correctly, which from what I have seen over the years is only about 25% of the time.

what if you have no choice but to replace the stock seatbelts with some harnesses?

OK..well i have corbeau 5-point camlock harness's in mine and they're awesome, they are welded to brackets that were were rear seat used to go (also tied into frame), but no the camlock design you can run 1 or 2 or 5 if you want, i have also made the smart decision to keep my stock, has saved me from a couple tickets, but not one, wasnt quick enough getting the harness off (felt like a jacka$$) but yeah..i have to remanuver them now, sold my 86 GT seats and got some free black 92 LX seats..
