FLowtech
Flowtech Long tubes = 129.00
Flowtech Shortys = 159.95 Why would long tubes be less expensive? Are they complete crap with horrible fitment ?

I wouldn't buy them, they don't last long.

I dunno, how much power are you planning on making.
I don't really see the point in going to long tubes if you are only going to use 1 5/8" tubes, but I personally prefer shorties whenever possible except for all out racing use. Also, if you are serious enough about wanting to make power, then you'll skip the ball and socket style BBK headers and get some 3-bolt flange tuneable headers with a 3" collector. With a 2 1/2" ball and socket collector you are forcing all the exhaust through a 2 1/4" hole that creates turbulence and disrupts any scavenging effect.

If you have shorties, you aren't worried about making max power...
If you want full length, hooker, heddman, mac, kooks, etc... makes 3-bolt headers for foxes. Also there are plenty of H-pipes that have 3-bolt flanges, I got mine from MAC. |

It takes alot of exhaust flow to see benifits from a 1 3/4 inch long tube. At 500 hp you might see a 20-30 hp gain from 1 5/8 shorties to 1 3/4 long tubes. At 270hp it will probbably give you no to minimal gains.

I am a believer in LTs...What does a stock AOD pull on the dyno? 170 maybe?
With LTs, o/r h, flows, and pullies, i pulled 200 HP 291 TQ through my aod. I hear that is pretty impressive. gotta think ~30 HP from those little mods through an aod...I will probably put LTs on every car i build from now on.

The HP Myths sticky on the main page shows some numbers between LT and shorties. Remove the long tubes from your list of mods above and replace them with some after market shorties, you will probably have 199.8 HP and 290.5 TQ.
That being said, there is nothing wrong with LTs, where they really stand out is high rpm high HP.

Well i am going s/c, with h/c/i. So i was thinking LT's would be best. I really dont care to mess with longtubes on anything because they just get in youre way with anything. I learned my lesson installing them on a DOHC 4.6 Cobra. They sucked. 5.0's i dont mind. But when i need to yank the bellhousing they are a pain.
If youre saying i will be just fine and wouldnt need to do the swap from shortys or equal lenght to long tubes in the future then i will stick with shortys or equal lenghts. What is everyones honest opinion....Should i go Long tubes...or stick to shortys or equal lenghts. I need to go full exhaust within the next few weeks. So give me some opinions on what systems work well together.
