Harmonic Balancer

How do I know what size harmonic balancer to use "size / oz"? I have a 302 out of an 82 mustang with a mild rebuild that will be using an auto tranny.

Well you need to know what kind of balance it has. Was the rebuild done by you? Most 5.0's have a 50oz balance. I think 79 and 80 used diff balaners. But i know 81-95 pretty much used the same. I know most 5.0's have a 4 bolt style and i think 79 had a 3 bolt. And the 81's and newer have a 4inch balancer. Thats pretty much my 2 cents.

If what you mean by balance in internal or external it is external.

Yeah most pulleys come with allen bolts.

You should be ok with a 50oz balancer. Professional Products make a pretty cool setup. If you want something easyto install just buy a Ford racing balancer most can be bought for about 50-60bucks.

1982 and up 302s use 50 oz imbalace

1981 and earlier use 28 oz

You'd better check the casting marks on the block

If is starts with E2 you should be good with 50 oz, E1 you need 28 OZ.

This is assuming of course that it still has the stock rotating assembly.

Well found out that the block is 81 302 and the crank was out of the orginal 82 302. So I guess in this case I would be using a 50oz.
