Question on Full Manual autos.

Hey what's up guys, i haven't posted in a while because i sold my mustang and got lost in the 96 Impala SS world for a little bit. I finally came to my senses and am going to buy another mustang so i am doing some planning.

My questions are:

1) Which full manual auto trannies are available for 87-93 mustangs?
I'm not interested in the C-4 because it's going to be a street driven mustang so i need that extra gear.

2) Will what ever tranny you recommend shift right into gear with no hesitation as soon as you move the shifter and hit hard?

3) I was reading and got a little confused about the stock rear-end gears in 87-93 mustangs. I thought they were all stock with 3.08's. Is this correct?

Why not just have a normal stick shift if your driving it on the street they can take occasional track usage the only people who switch to full manual autos are the cars that normaly only see the track.

Stock rear end is 2.78's some had 3.08's I think Verts came with 3.08's but not sure on that

I had a stick and i want to try something different until i get bored of that. My friend had a C-4 in his thunderbird and it was pretty cool to be automatic and just shift on command with no clutch. Plus it felt nice to have that thing snap your neck after hitting second and third. If you ever been in one, you'd know what i'm talking about. Any info?

Thanks. I know. I wasn't implying that they did come with a C-4, i was saying i'm not interested in a C-4 so that no one recommends one as a full manual tranny.

Are there any other full manual auto transmissions for these mustangs?

Not stock..just AOD's, and AOD w/ a shift kit, shifts smooth, fast and VERY hard

the stock gears are 2:73's 8t6

and i had a C4 w/ 3200rpm stall, transgo shift kit set at race mode, and that thing shifted SWEET, also had an 89 F250 460 w/ C6 and another transgo shift kit and that thing snapped you neck when driving to school at 6:30am..funny, shifted hardest when it was cold..

Why does a street car need 4 or more gears???? If you want fuel economy use a 5 speed. The mileage difference between an AOD and a C4 is minimal. The AOD has the overdrive gear but also sucks up alot of horsepower at the same time which coincidentally consumes fuel.

Well I might go with 3/73 or 4/10's so i thought that the OD gear would help.

So you are saying if i put a C-4 in there it will be about the same?
What are the gears longer or something?
And is it going to shift the way i described?

A good transmission will shift hard and quick. The gas mileage difference between a C4 and AOD is not worth the extra money it will cost you to buy a good AOD. The difference between the two is minimal and like I said before if you want fuel economy go with a manual trans.

Ok i'm convinced. Are there different C-4's available or are they all the same. Which is a good choice? TCI?
