thunderbird axle in a fox?

Ok I've heard this now from two people but you guys are the experts so I want to ask you......

Is it true that a 1985-1989 thunderbird axle (8.8in) is slightly narrower than a stock 5.0's and has disc brakes stock? And if so, can one just bolt right into a fox? Also are they 4 or 5 lug?

If this the case, then this is the axle I want to get for my car!!! I need to run wide tires and disc brakes in the rear sounds awesome!!! Do I have the correct years for this thunderbird axle (85-89)?? And is there any specific model thunderbird that came with these or did all of them?

Thanks in advance guys!!! This forum kicks ass!

it will bolt in but the axles are about .75" longer(wider) you could use a wheel with a 1" more back space to maintain about the same rear foot print..also you would have to change you mater cyl. from a svo or a 95 gt

why? you can only use little skinny tires then.. the shorter the axle, the bigger the tires you can fit

1.5 inches longer=.75inches on each side. 5sp turbo coups had 3.55s and auto had 3.73s. Its a really cheap rear end for good performance. just ad 3/4" to the back spacing.

I can attest to the width difference.
We have a Turbo coupe rear in our 88' GT.

Width is 1.5 longer and ours is 3.73 disc brakes that come from an automatic turbo coupe.

83-88 turbocoupes are based off of the fox platform, ie solid axle

89+ tibirds were based off of the MN-12 platform and the special was the Super Coupe with a s/c V6 with the IRS

totally different cars
