Replaced Clutch....Big Problems

I replaced the clutch last night. Everything went smooth going back together. Put the car back on the ground buttoned up a few things. Gave it a good overall check. THen it was time for the test drive. Car starts up in N but won't go in gear. WTF clutch pedal all the way to the floor and nothing. Turn car off put it in first gear try and start it and car tries to move forward. We adjusted the clutch cable three times. Made sure it self adjusted. Did we get a bad clutch. The one thing that looked worn and wasn't replaced was the ball for the fork. Ball thing that is attached to the bell. Any Idea's. Yes we took every thing back apart. Going to get a different clutch from the parts store. Maybe we got the wrong one. Don't know what to look for or do.

Any idea's

It was a stock replacement. I can't think of the name.....I'm at work can't go and look at the box. But it was brand new and not a rebuilt. Came with everything.....Box said made in spain. I remember that much

I think it could have been a Dynapak

Sounds like the clutch isn't releasing. This could be due to the cable adjustment problems, improper assembly (did you put the clutch disk in the correct orientation), or a warped or bad pressure plate.

My guess is you made some mistake during the assembly.

The disk can go on only one way. The flywheel goes on only one way also. I had the flywheel resurfaced. The pressure plate is new came with the kit. Only thing we can think of is the ball for the Fork. THe cable is attached to the fork the fork rest on this ball. The ball is wore. Anyone know what i'm talking about

I am going to take a look at the disk as soon as I get home.

Is it printed on the disk or something?

yea it should. however you are going to have to take it out to see it as you should know that. but thats besides the point. once you have flipped it you should have no other problems with it.

If you had ever installed a clutch, you would know that if it wasn't aligned, there would be no way you could get the transmission back in...

It can go in either way, that is why one side should be stamped with "flywheel side" it is stamped on the central metal part of the disk usually. As I recall the flat side goes towards the flywheel. Also make sure you are putting the throwout bearing in the fork in the correct direction, the thick side goes toward the pressure plate.

If that isn't the problem, it is likely that you didn't have the cable adjusted correctly. I doubt it is your ball stud, unless you knocked the fork off the stud while you were putting the trans back in. I usually put the cable back on the fork and put some (just a little) tension on the fork so that it holds the fork in place while I put the input shaft back in there.

When everything is back in place the cable should have some tension (just a little) on it before you ever touch the petal. If the cable is loose you need to take up some slack (firewall adjuster works nice for this).

The trans slipped back on with no problem. Didn't have to use the bolts to pull it in.

Also the flat end of the disk did go up against the flywheel.

If the ball was wore badly it will change the geometry of the fork. We also bent the fork ball clip things cause it was sitting on the ball alittle loose and that snugged it up.

We pulled up on the clutch pedal then pulled the cable out and attached. How or does it self adjust. When you push down on it.

How exactly do you reset the clutch cable?

it adjust by pulling the clutch pedal up,but i would suggest you inveest in an aftermarket one ''if you dont already have one'' with an adjustable quadrant and firewall adjuster

Most likely you cable does not self adjust any more, but you should here it click when you pull up the pedal if it was loose.

if your pedal is just limp, you have too much slack in the cable or it is not attached to the petal correctly. The cable should not have any slack in it when you get everything back together. Buy a firewall cable adjuster for like $20 and it will solve your cable adjustment problems....but make sure that is your problem first.
