can a worn nylon bushing cuase gears not to fully engage?
I took the shifter out of my w/c t5 and was examining it because my tranny wont stay in gear when i accelerate or deaccelerate.Since it's a tailshift i was thinking that maybe some bushing or pad might be worn out.I dont know what the tolerances are for the big nylon ball/bushing (that is the pivot point for the shifter) are so i'm not sure if it's "worn"out or not.I wanna find out if this being worn(If it's even worn out) would cuase my problems before i spend $250 on a new shifter.I'd hate to buy a new one then find out it's something WAY more expensive.Any help here would be appreciated! Thanx

if it wont stay in, generally its cause the slider isnt fully engaging. if the cup for the shifter is worn out completely, its possible it wont fully engage. pad on fork in tranny could be worn or missing. is it doing it in all gears? are there adjustable stops on the shifter assy? possible adjustment got moved and won allow full engagement

It's a stock shifter and thier is no adjusting screws or bolts on it.It'll kick first if i dont hold it in gear on take off and will kick back out of third when i down shift. I can shift progressivly shift up gears without pushing the clutch in as long as im accelerating. It just feels like the shifter isnt pushing the tranny fully into gear.If i hold the shifter in place ,not with excessive force(just one finger will keep it from kicking out),it'll stay in gear without problem.I havent went further into the tranny to see if the pad on the rod is worn as im not too comfortable with transmissions and disassembling them! I will if i'm lead to believe that the problem lays there and is fairly simple to resolve.I'm almost to the point now of just spending the bread to buy a new tranny but man a supercharger was next on my "to get" list and a tranny will set me back a month or two.Any help Fanatic would be appreciated bro

if the nylon cup was completely worn out and the hole it sits in was starting to get elongated, then id think it would be the issue unless the pads on the shift forks are also worn out, then possibly id think that could do it....but hearing you can shift with no clutch, depending on how you do it, sounds like synchros. describe youre ability to shift with no clutch.

Like you would normally from first on up without the clutch though! You dont have to pull it out excessivly, just grab da shifter and ease it to the next gear as long as you are easing on the throttle. If ur IN the throttle it wont work or not on the throttle at all it wont shift without the clutch.I swear im just gonna go pull a t-5 from the junk yard and save for a TKO!

probaly internal gear and synchro wear. even if you had to replace the bushings on the shift forks, youd still have to open it up enough to see how bad it is....sorry
