gt40 question
i hear that the 5.0 explorer had the gt-40 heads on them i have a 95 gt pretty much stock. would these fit and if so would they help over the heads that r on now i think i can get them pretty cheap

yes, they are the gt40P heads. they will be an improvement over the stock heads but be aware new headers will be needed as the P heads use a different header tube configuration

ty for the reply. Do u have any idea wut kind of improvement to expect. also wut should look for when i grab them from a junkyard. and will like mac shortys or pretty much any aftermarket head bolt up with them?

If memory serves me correct, it's like 25-35hp. As for the headers, there are only a few that will fit both heads w/o issues of plug wire interference. Maybe Darrell or someone else will chime in here w/ some part #'s or some more info

well do u think even if i got like 20-25 hp out of it it would be worth the cost and however hard it would be to put them in?

as long as you can get the heads for a good price, yes. Do the math, you can buy a set of alum heads for around $1000 time it's all said and done.

well did they make any alum for the explorers? and if not is the cast iron or w/e good enough?. also how hard would it be to switch them? and are there any special tools i would need?

A friend of mine put GT40P heads and Explorer intake on his bone stock 88 LX. With 26x8.5 slicks the car went 12.86. Nothing else was done to the car.

I had a set of gt40p's and it's a big improvement over stock. I've got BBk shorty unequal length headers and the plugs went around them ok with the heads but have 45 degree angle plug wires to keep them from burning

chvyeter hows ur sound buy the way? i was gonna do the heads and intake off explorer headers offroad x-pipe prolly flows after i get wheels and tires.. ohh and prolly gears.
