this sucks

ok my t-5 tranny went out today at work. so, i dont know what to do. is it worth rebuilding ( i am wanting to put about 400rwhp)? or should i go auto with a C4 and if so. do i have to change out the console because its an auto. would i also have to go with a different driveshaft?

my buddy has a notch with a 331 and a c4 with the reverse....what ever its called and he wants to sell it for 5000 but i hate autos how much and how hard to make it a 5 speed and then i could have a 331 for fun and i could build something bad ass....it runs rough i think it has a big cam....he don't know anything about the car it was built when he bought it. it was boging down when he took me for a ride..

c4 is weak tremec is best you dump enough cash in a c4 it will hold up. and you will have to change console for shifter, run cooling lines, shift cable,... etc. 5 speeds rule!

It just cost 3000 bucks to put a tremec in your car and i could build a c-4 and put it in my car for way less.5 speeds are fun on the street only imo

they both pose good points, if your on a tight budget, go c-4. if you are like cams or have a father like his, go tremtec

i work at a dealership and i am good good freinds with the shop foreman. who just happens to be one of the best tranny tech in the state. so, all i have to pay for is parts which i also get at cost. so i think i am either gonna rerbuild cause i love a manual or go C4 cause they are pretty strong. just need more info please.

so you guys dont think you can get a good rebuild kit for a decent price that will hold up to higher horsepower, for the t5, cus i was think about just keeping mine and rebuilding it and putting a high ratio 5th gear in it so itll keep rpms down a lil on highway. i dont have the horsepower yet but will eventually

If you wanna go fast a built C4 is the hot ticket. they will help you launch better, and be more consistant. Look around at some of the faster mustangs and you'll see that most of them share one thing in common, a built C4. If you're not that inclined to go racing, a 5sp will suit you better, with having an overdrive gear and all.

here is what happen its stuck in 5th. the whole shifter was stuck kept messing with and heard a loud metal klank. the stifter moves freely but tranny still stuck in 5th. pulled out the shifter and every thing is good there. so i think i am gonna have it rebuild cause i like the 5 speed. and save for a TKO. what kind of kit should i get? what is a G-Force kit? is better then the others?

Your shift fork is bent or broke, it will not cost that much to fix. Take it to a reputable transmission shop, it shouldn't cost more than a few hundred bucks.

I have 2 cars that both run 11s. They both have stock T5 transmissions. I have never replaced either transmission. My 88 gt has about 100 passes on it and I drive it hard on the street. I have had the car since 1998. It pulls 1.5 second 60 foots and the trans is as strong as ever. People that brake T5s all the time either have no idea how to drive a stick, they are powershifting all the time, they have way to stiff of a clutch, or they are making 500+ hp.
