Electrical Issue Find It And I'll Give You A Dollar

This car is driving me nuts...... I have a intermitant miss that usually happens when the car is warming up and it is between 160-180 degrees. But occasionally it will come out of nowhere when I'm cruising along. Funny thing is at WOT the car runs great. So far I have inspected the harness, changed out the ECT sensor, looked at the A9L, disconnected the 6AL, replaced the ignition module, replaced the plugs and have played with the gap and cleaned the harness for the distributer. My only idea is to replace the harness at the moment but finding one in great condition is pretty hard. And I am really trying to keep from throwing money at it. Has anyone ever had a problme like this? Is there a way to datalog on a A9L?

have you Checked for Codes?
you could datalog using a tweecerRT or equivalent EEC tuner, but that cost $$$ and is likely unneccessary to diagnose your problem.

I had a buddy check for them at work about a month ago. He said about 15 codes popped up and a few of them had something to do with the ECT sensor. Unfortunatly he didn't write them down. As of late I forgot about being able to pull the codes my self. I guess I was spoiled with being able to use the diablo on my 01. i'll pull the codes in the morning if my CEL is still in the dash.

if the CEL doesn't work, there are alternate hook-ups you could do, using a test light or a volt-ohm meter (check the link i posted). before checking codes you might want to reset them (by disconnecting battery for ~15min), then drive around a while. that way old codes, that might not be problems anymore, wont show up and you only get codes that are current. let us know

unless you removed it you should have an Air Charge Temp Sensor (ACT). thats the same thing as an IAT, but dont replace it until you check codes and find out if it, or something else, is the problem. my two cents...

I am familiar with what a IAT is but this car doesn't have one on it. I can't find one anywhere. Unfortunatly I didn't have the opportunity to build this car. I made a killing on a trade for it. The former owner wasn't able to fix the the bugs so I traded an almost stock 01 GT for this 88 with 25 thousand dollars worth of brand new parts. the only catch is getting everything to work.

the ACT should be screwed into the lower intake manifold towards the front driver side, next to the #5 fuel injector. but again, check for codes before wasting money on a new one.

problem i found is probe on sensor breaks loose and intermittently gives false readings, but should log a code for reading cold.

I found it......... After pulling the intake and completely pulling the engine harness, I found that the previous owner desided to drop the ACT or IAT sensor in the passenger side fender. Who would have known that attached to the harness was an extra 4 feet of wire. This hole time it has been swinging around inside the fender. I went ahead and cut the slack off and cut off all of the plugs that aren't used anymore. Stuck a new ACT sensor in the intake and The car hasn't stumbled for the first time today.

eh well i probably zapped the computer. unfortunatly the first time i hooked it up i found a brown single wire and the 5 prong harness. when i jumped those there was a quick arc. Right then I knew i didn't have it hooked to the right one. looked a little more and un-covered the grey one that is needed. go figure they are the sme exact plug just different colors. I jumped off of that one and hooked up the test light. the test light stays on the whole time and when I turn the key on it doesn't blink. right now its to late to try and start it to see if it will still run.
