i have never had a 347 but i would not think it would smoke just cause its a 347. i would say it is just wore out or wasnt built right.

yes they have and they have come out with stroker kits that have a 5.315 inch rod instead od a 5.4 inch rod.but like vfast said it has been taken care of by most piston manufactures and the 5.4 inch rod is fine.,

The rod length has nothing to do with it. Either does the wrist pin intersecting the oil ring land. I can believe people still talk about this. This problem has been a dead issue for years. It was all a farce to begin with. A worn out engine will burn oil but 90% of the time the oil consumption comes from valve seals and/or guides. A 347 is not a smoke machine and either are the hundreds of other engines out there that use a similar piston set up with the wrist pin intersecting the oil ring land. Strangely it seems that most people think a 347 is the only engine that uses this piston configuration.

i think 347 is the most hated upon engine...why..just because people like the new "hot engine" 331ci, and know that 347 are better, and they have 1 tiny flaw a while back and rag it to shit..its not fair, cuz you take identical motors, except one 331ci and one 347ci and the 347's will win!!!

What happened is some idiot started a bullshit rumor many years ago that 347s were unreliable first due to the poor rod to stroke ratio and second due to the piston design. The funny thing is guys like Smokey Yunick and Grumpy Jenkins were building engines since the 70s with offset ground cranks, horrible rod to stroke ratios and piston designs like the 347. The only people that talk about poor rod to stroke ratios and 347 oil burning problems are people that have no experience with the subject at hand.
