Alternator?
I purchased a new alternator and installed it. But the guage reads at 8 or 9. When I rev the motor a few times it goes up to 12 to 14. But it slowly goes back down to 8 or 9. Is that normal on a foxbody car?

Take the alternator back and get a replacement. Sounds like you got an alternator with one set of diodes already blown.
unless you have underdrive pulleys on your car, then it is normal...

if you have underdrive pullies thats it....if not you need to take the car and have the alternator and voltage regulator checked out....could very easily be the voltage regulator having that problem on my harley right now.....if you have a voltmeter check how many volts are coming out of the alt. at idle then check the regulator
