Power Loss
I have a 88 gt 5.0. I added full length headers and exhaust, and cold air kit. Now I have lost the snap from the car. I kept the O2 sensors in the headers, disconected the smog pump? I am looking at buying one of those chips that redirect the fuel and timing etc. What should the timing be set at too?

NO CHIP PLEASE!
You don't need it. Try 14* base timing with spout out, than move up from there. |

actually 1 3/4 long tubes with the cold air in a motor that in not that worked will cause some loss of bottom end. if u dont have the juice to move the air it will take some higher rpm to produce power. remember an engine is nothing but an air pump

the headers are just the basic 1 3/4 i believe with hooker mufflers ran into 2 or 2 1/2 inch pipe. I read on this site to disconect the plug that comes out of the dist, then set the timing and reconnect the plug. I am new to fords, and want to make this a screamer for my uncle who was a ford freak and a very good one at that, he passed away about 3 months ago and now I don't have someone to ask. Is the chip a bad idea? This 88 didn't come with a MAS sensor so the cold air kit is attached properly running into the fender. I am new to this site and appreciate your help.

that is correct dont pull the plug out of the module on the dist pull the little black or gray jumper chip that should be close to the dist then set your timing. 14 degrees is a good start. timing is power go as far as you can go until the pining sets in. if you can hear it ping back off a degree or two sometimes you cant hear it unless you have ear for it.
