88 GT fuel economy

I have an 88 mustang gt. Has a few mods. Full h-pipe exhaust system, hypertech chip, MSD distributor, K&N intake, 3.73 rear end. My fuel economy is pretty bad. Best I can get with mixed highway/around town driving is 14 mpg. If I step on it once and awhile, im looking at more like 8 or 9 mpg. I see some people on here with fast cars that get 18-20 mpg. Do you think my hypertech chip is responsible for this loss in mpg?

I dont think that is that bad of gas mileage, the gear is probably causing it to be a little worse that what it was. My wife has a brand new grand prix gxp and it only gets 15mpg, if i dive it it goes down to like 13 and its alot newer.

thats sucks..its prob something to do w/ chip, and those's 3:73 gears arent helping much too, do you actually have an msd distributor or is it just the cap..i got about 16-17 w/ GT40 top end, 3:73's, full exhuast and a few more things...now that i went back to stock..and im going to like 3:27's or 3:55's i should be back over 20mpg..

Straight highway that car should get in the area of 25mpg even with the 3.73 gears. A combination of city and highway should probably be around 18 mpg. When was the last time it had a tune up?

My daily driver has 16 cylinders and 4400hp @ 1000 rpm....

it should be a shiny billet aluminum color'ed shaft, with block lower, and then a red top that says MSD in white...you may have that red msd cap on it, but if the rest is in billet its most likely is not msd...unless its older...also theres a sticker on the side of the shaft that says MSD
