I wouldnt think it would be as good flow wise as TF, Holley, etc, even if it is ported. if you buy a good intake to begin with, you wont need porting...

One of the responses I got when doing some searching:

THE GT40 IS THE MOST DESIRED MANIFOLD IN THE 5.0 INDUSTRY FOR MILD MODIFIED MUSTANG UP TO 450 HP. THEY RUN OUT OF UMPH AT ABOUT 5300 AND THE HP AND TORQUE CURVE JUST KINDA FLATTEN OUT. THEY ARE SO DESIRED BECAUSE OF THERE LOOKS MORE THAN ANYTHING. A GREAT PERFORMANCE MODIFICATION FOR A MILD CAR BUT NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOUR TALKING ABOUT 331 347 BLOWER N20 TURBO ETC ETC.

COMPARED TO THE OTHER MANIFOLDS ON THE MARKET, IT IS SUPERIOR TO ALL THE ENTRY LEVEL SYSTEMS SUCH AS PERFORMER INTAKES, PROFFESIONAL PRODUCT INTAKE, TRICK FLOW STREET HEAT AND HOLLEYS.

RPM2 HOLLEY SYSTEM X TRICK FLOW R SERIES. THOSE ARE SUPERIOR BUT YOU WILL NEED MUCH MORE THEN JUST A 302 TO UTILIZE THIS TYPE OF MANIFOLD, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE A BIG FAT DOG DOWN LOW.

the explorer/gt40/cobra manifolds will generally give you better lowend power compared with any aftermarket intake...on the otherhand the aftermarket intakes are better in the higher rpms. if you have a mild (stockish) combo the gt40 intake will work better for you. but with any engine with aftermarket heads and cam the aftermarket intakes would be better.

But i agree. I didnt even look at the bid.
Looking at TMoss' site he charges $130 minimum for labor. What should a tubular GT40 intake cost? Afterall it is polished for those who want the bling factor. It even comes with the cover that sells on ebay for around $100. I don't plan on buying it, I just posted it for the OP and also since I had some questions.

So back to my question: How does a GT40 intake compare to an Edelbrock or other unit?
there is no comparison

Its not just the intake that will make the motor a dog it cam, head, and intake choice if you do not get the right cam matched to your combo the it will be a dog.And a holley systemax is a great intake i got one on my 347.

Yes, too big of an IM and TB on a stock motor would make it a dog. $500 for the tubular used one when you can buy a bnib Cobra intake on Ebay for $365:

I guess it is all personal preference.
