custom gt40 tubular intake

I just saw this intake manifold on ebay and have been looking for a tubular gt40 intake. This one is a little different (and about $150 more expensive). Wanted to get your opinion on if you think it's worth it.

interesting. i'm thinking it probably won't perform any better than a regular gt40/cobra/explorer intake, but it looks cool. did the person do any work to the lower intake at all?

In that case, yeah it looks like it's been cleaned/sandblasted.

Looks cool, but unless you just want to spend the extra money, then i'd get a different one...

The tubular GT40, the explorer intake, and the Cobra all flow the same.

yeah then i'd probably pass it up, unless you plan on doing the porting yourself. the custom cutting/welding on the upper isn't going to improve anything unless the lower is ported. the lower contains the real restriction (#1 and 5 runners). for the price you'd be better off sending a regular gt40 to tmoss, or porting it yourself. i really like the looks of the gt40 and it is about 10 lbs lighter than the cobra or explorer intakes, but if you're only concerned with performance then you should just get the explorer intake and have it ported.

Media blasting can be anything from wallnut shells to 1/8" alu. BBs. Thats why its called media.

+1, heads and lower intake are the 2 biggest bottle necks on these motors.

I just saw this one on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GT40-...QQcmdZViewItem
The lower is ported to a Felpro 1250 gasket. Is that a good size?

Yeah it is. I would ask who did the porting..Some amatures do it rough and can actually hurt the performance..i looked at one like that one time...Dude said it was professionally ported but when i went to go buy it, it looked like a 3 year old had ported it.

could be too large, depending on the size of your cylinder head ports. if you've got stock cyl heads i would stick with the cobra/gt40/explorer intake

Looking at TMoss' site he charges $130 minimum for labor. What should a tubular GT40 intake cost? Afterall it is polished for those who want the bling factor. It even comes with the cover that sells on ebay for around $100. I don't plan on buying it, I just posted it for the OP and also since I had some questions.

So back to my question: How does a GT40 intake compare to an Edelbrock or other unit?
