B303 Cam

I recently acquired a 92 fox with a 306. The guy that sold me the car says it has a B303 cam. I looked up the specs for the cam and I am a little confused. Does this cam have 107 degrees of lobe seperation?- WTF?

After looking at the specs, I don't really understand what this cam is designed for. It has a real choppy idle (which sounds great), but the powerband in this car is weird. It's like the car doesn't come into it's powerband until mid range, but it doesn't seem to have much top end. Is this cam possibly to blame for the strange powerband? It has E7 heads with 1.7 rockers BTW.

I wrote the wrong thing down in the first post. The motor has 1.6 ratio rocker arms.

The B303 cam has a 112 lobe separation. The narrow powerband is the cam. The B303 is known for it.

Darrell, what cam would be good swap for this motor? I like the choppy idle, but I would enjoy some performance from it as well. Will a comp 286 work in this motor without PTV issues?

Changing the cam would be pointless. In fact, it is just about pointless to have a B303 in there now...Obviously the guy did it for the sound ONLY... Get a nice set of heads and intake before you go swapping the cam AGAIN.

OK, help me out here- I have never been a Ford guy. My 03 was the first Mustang I have ever really been into, and it is nothing like the SBF. Everything I have built in the past was Chevrolet. I forgot to mention that the car has a holley 750 and an Edelbrock dual plane intake. Maybe I should just go back to proven methods- A built 355.

Nah, a 306 is nice man...Just get a good top, in your case, just heads/cam, some nice pushrods. seems like you have a decent carb (i dont know much about carbs though)

I was just saying, that cam with a stock motor is just worthless...It is used for sound only and no performance in your case. Get a pair of nice heads and a better cam and you got yourself a nice motor...

And i am not dogging the B303, that is what i am running, but with ported GT40 heads, ported explorer intake, etc etc...

That carb is pretty big for a 302, you need more like a 600 or 650 for a 302 if you want good off idle power.

Put a set of aluminum heads on there and you will notice a huge difference.

a 355 is a proven turd, not a performance solution. The only thing good about it is that it is dirt cheap, so when it breaks you can replace it cheap. A ford 351w will hold about 800 hp with a stock crank block and pistons (rod upgrade only)

+1 that would run alot better w/ a holley 650 or demon 650..a custom cam and a nice set of aluminum heads, those heads are doing that thing no justice..and plan on replacing those shitty flowtech headers soon..they suck...

What the hell are you spewing out of your keyboard? The last 355 I built cost me about $2500 and went a 6.93 1/8 in a 3000 lb. Camaro. Don't go thinkin that the Ford motor is the king just because you have one.

I'd have just stuck with that then. Most the guys on here have tried other cars, and makes. Dont think that your 355 is the king cause you got E7's and a 750. A bad combo is a bad combo, 355, 302 or whatever. You need wheelie bars.

Let me say again- I traded for the car as is- I have $800 in this car. If I didn't like the Mustang, I wouldn't have it, but I would like to be some what cost efficient with this car. I have gotten use to spending rediculous amounts of money on the mod motors for less than stellar performance.

Anyway, does anybody know where I could find a tubular K-member that is already set up to accept a small chevy motor?

you don't need a custom K-member, just mounts. and a good head examining.
