Some say C&Ls are indeed shitty. Get a Pro-M and see if it changes, if not, then it probably wasnt the meter.

Have you got it tuned right? As in professionally tuned?

C&L alot of people have problems. PMAS or Pro-M are decent. Not that more expensive either. Does youre CAI have a bend at the fender, or is it just exposed. I would have it tuned either way so you can tell. Did you go with diff. injectors or just a bigger MAF ?

before wasting $$$ on a different brand MAF (especially since you can get a tuner for the same cost) you should make sure something else isn't causing the problem. Check for Codes. FWIW, my C&L has worked flawlessly and so have thousands of others. its just recently that the C&L e-bashing has started, now everyone blames everything on the C&L meter.

I'd get it prof tuned, if that doesn't help try the pro M. I like the pro M a whole lot better, but if you get the C&L to work right then it may not be worth spending the extra $$$

C&L has had alot of problems with mass air meters for several years. One thing that seems to help with them is rotating the meter in one direction or the other.

If you are having problems with the car now I wouldn't change anything. I'd be looking into why you are having problems. Going to a larger mass air meter isn't going to make the problem go away.

the 2 main reasons for "clocking" (rotating) the MAF are:
1. you have the air filter in the engine compartment and the air from the fan (fan wash) is disrupting the MAF sensor readings. you really shouldn't have the filter in the engine compartment anyway...if you do you should fab up a heat shield for it (kind of a fun fabrication project really).
2. there is a bend immediately before the meter (ie bbk or mac style fenderwell CAI). in this instance the air does not flow evenly round the bend so the signal is not consistent and not accurately representative of the actual amount of air entering your engine.

i would think the problem is worse with C&L meters because of the way the C&L "adjusts" for different injector sizes. since they use larger tubes around the sensor element, the signal is more prone to disruption.

+1 clocking my C&L made a huge difference in driveability.

Also, try turning the fuel pressure down if it is running rich...
