Back Yard Tuning...

alright i own a 89 mustang GT 5.0l 5 Speed...(best car ever) lol its my dream car and i started tinkering and tweaking with stuff (gutting, weight reduction, battery relocator,) etc im stating off with the little stuff first (tower braces rear/front, full length subframe connectors, camber caster plates, upper and lower control arms, exhuast) but to my point

what are some back yard trick u can do to 5.0's for more power, i know the following:

timing advance to 14 degree's +
94+ octane fuel
0.45 spark plug gap (with good ignition)
remove air silencer (and use K&N cone filter)

any others?

Sounds to me like you're going about just right. Stiffen it, make it stop and corner better, make it hook up better then bump up the HP.

As to your question, those are about the limit of what you can do before starting to put money into it as far as I know. My next step would be to put in 3.73 gears and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and take a trip to the dyno.

Then make sure your credit is good because you and your credit cards are in for the ride of your life.

Go to the junk yard and find an explorer motor and take the heads and intake??

Or buy a nitrous kit.

Those are the next cheapest upgrades.

how much power do you gain from the explorer setup? is the block and rotating assembly the same as a gt 5.0?

I have an Explorer short block with ported E7 heads, E cam, Edlebrock Preformer upper/lower intake which makes 280 hp to the wheels then I have a 150 shot which got me to 380 whp and 460 ft.lbs. It's a very cheap setup but it works well.

how does it sound tho...i wouldnt want an Explorer motor in my mustang... but with the intake and cam...hmm i dont know.

the reason i post this up is because i have a friend who owned 5 5.0L's and he said with exhuast and a nice air filter (or intake) with some tricks you can get ur mustang right around 300HP and he was telling me stories of how he raced people with 3 grand put into the motor of there mustangs and he was telling me how he launches so well that no one ever took him off the line, and sometimes at the end of the race they would start to catch up and im like wow if i could drop 400 to 500 lbs and do some tricks my 89 GT would be fast without dropping 15000 grand into (FOR NOW) eventaully i want to rebuild another motor and turbo it

but for now i got MSD wires/MSD coil/ MSD ignition, battery relocated in trunk, strut tower braces, ill do a K&N filter and maybe a custom (fendermounted intake) im going to go with full length headers and 2.5inch exhuast with flow master mufflers

It sounds awesome... but I've got Mac shorty headers, X pipe, and Mac dumps.

The car is quick for the street. It's at 280 whp right now, no spray. I'm thinking if I had better heads than these E7's that I would be right at 300 whp.

I have a friend that has maxed out a shit load of credit cards, and continues to do so, all on his stang pretty much, says hes gonna max them all out and file bankruptcy.
What a dipshit, hes got a quick car and broke. I have a stock car, and no credit cards! FTW
