Progress On My Car

Well here's my car as of last night. Pretty much all the matal is DA sanded now and I picked up a tremec transmission!!! The engine bay has already been brought down to bare metal and primed....

Can anybody tell me if the rear end is a 7.5 or 8.8? Don't take into account the year or anything just go by the pics. I've looked at so many contradicting diagrams online I just can't tell anymore......

whats the numbers off that tag? does it have 7.5 on it or 8.8? looks like an 8.8 probably with 3.08's originally.

Looks great...

I would put a 85/86 nose on the car though...

Yeah my primary concern is getting the car moving without me pushing it first haha Then getting it set up as far as suspension/gearing.......... After all that I can worry about cosmetic crap....

I'm pretty sure the tag says 8.8 on it....... But I thought 79 5.0's came with a 7.5 so that's why I was curious.... I think it has like 2.90's for gearing though. I put the car on my lift today and marked the shaft input and wheel and turned them and I didn't even get a full 3 roatations from the shaft before the tire was back to where it started. Oh well I'll be getting 4.10's anyway!!!!

I found these pics of when I went to get the car about a month ago. How's that for a professional flame job this guy had? LMAO looks like a kindergarden class did it...... The whole car had the clear coat on it that looked like they put surran wrap on it, I called it "splooge effect" haha. Can you say QUEER!!!!!!!

thanks guys!

A 79 pace car did not come with an 8.8" rear end. It's probably a 7.5".

cool..maybe try and find an 85/86 nose while you're at it...you can land a used one for under $100...

yeah 86 was 1st year of the 8.8...you're prob going to do new gears? if not i think some 5.0 5spd GT's came with 3:08s...but they mixmatched alot of those..so you can never tell til you pop the dif cover off..

i didnt do the door jams and such...just the outer body...one trick i found works really good, just lay tape over the molding and use and single edge bladed knife and cut the excess off..you'll never believe that was done with 15 cans of automotive primer...not 1 person that said something about how good it is can believe that..

There's no real suggestions for stripping the interior, you just go at it!! the only thing that sucks is the back plastic side panels, ton of Phillips screws try not to strip them obv..... good luck

Yeah I'm gonna put 4.10's for gearing prob, it will be alright have an overdrive with the tremec.....

this is the engine I built before i even had a car.... 351w
-speed pro forged pistons with 10.5:1 compression
-torker II cam .496/.520
-victor jr intake
-Full MSD ignition
-gt40p heads with the biggest valves you can fit with the best springs
-comp pro magnum rockers
-700cfm holley double pumper w/ mechanical secondaries
- High volume ford racing oil pump
-I just have a 110gph mechanical fuel pump on there now, but that will change soon after it's in the car to electric, same with the water pump! can't have that shit robbing ponies from me!!
