92 AOD tranny shifts to fast

My 92 mustang has the AOD tranny, It shifts from first to second fine, but it shifts from 2nd to third to OD real fast and lugs. It has done this since I bought it, I usually just shift it manually. Why does it do this ? Is there a way that I can "up" the shift points? Thanks for any info.

theres probly somthing wrong with your kickdown cable.... somthings not right there, you should get that checked out because that could cause some serious damage

The tranny was build before I got the car, it has a shift kit in it. Do I need to adjust the cable or? I do all my own work, I would just like to know a little about it before I dive in.

Sounds to me like the shift kit was made for drag racing purposes (flat on the floor). Now that it has a shift kit, im not sure how to adjust the cable to suit

in the shift kit there are little balls that go between the plates. they look simular but the diameters are different. i put one in my car wrong and it did the same thing yours is doin. i had to tear it back down, measure the the balls with a micrometer and put it back together. it ran perfect after that--all the way into a guard rail on 95 south

What RPM does the tranny usually shift, I did a little looking, and there were a lot of complaints with the AOD shifting fast. So , it may be normal?
