GT-40 Intake and Heads

I can tell the upper intake is off of an Explorer but I was wondering if there is any way of telling if the lower intake and heads were from an Explorer without tearing down the engine. I've read that the heads will have some sort of marks on the front and back distingushing them from E7 or E6 heads but I'm not sure what to look for exactly. Will a GT-40 upper even work with a normal lower?
Sorry for all the questions, but I appreciate all of your responses.

The GT40 upper wont work with any other lower, except the cobra. The Explorer upper and lower is basically the same intake. The explorers also use the E7 heads, same as the mustangs. To actually identify them, you need to get part number off the heads, and you can actually run the numbers using a Haynes book or Chilton, they normaly have part numbers and identification codes listed. If not, you can always find the info on the net.

The Explorers had the GT-40 heads just like the Cobras did they not? Which means they are not E7's. Did all the GT-40 heads have the 3 or 4 line indentions on the front and back?

I dont think all explorers used GT40s. Im almost positive alot of them had E7s. I know because a few years back i pulled a set off of an explorer, to replace my E6s on my 86 LX. I ran the head numbers, and they were E7s. Its possible that some explorers had GT40s.. although, i cant tell you how many.

Well had I done all of the work myself there would be no question as to what I have but the motor was like this when I bought the car. Don't get me wrong it runs great, I'm just curious as to what I have exactly. Its kind of bugging me, lol.

gt40 heads will have 3 vertical bars on the side of the head. they will also say gt40 on them. gt40p heads will have 4 bars and will say gt40p on the head i think lower right hand corner

look at the heads by the lower front passenger side bolt hole , if they are GT40s , it will say gtp in small letters , or GT in big letters , if they are gt40 heads , the gtp means the GT40P heads (require special headers due to straight spark plug holes) , and the GT40s have angled plug holes like the stock heads do .....

Thanks for all the responses guys. When I get the chance I'll check. I think they might be E6 heads but the only thing I have really been going on is the spark plug number. When I did a search on the plugs the number was for an 86 Mustang. If thats the case, these heads could really be choking my engine right?
