Need Engine Build Advice Please

Hello all ,

I'am kinda new here, but I need some advice/help on what engine to build for my 87 notch.

For starters I want the car to be able to be driven every day if needed. The main problem i'am having is the fuel injection. I cant deceide if it is worth keeping. I want a ground pounding camshaft. I'am after the sound more than going fast , but I dont want a terd either. I know you can go to big on a camsahft and ruin and engine. But I use to have a 69 nova street strip car that just had an awsome idle to it. I love to hear a good cam hit.
If I was going to just go carb then all would be easy. However what can I do to keep the fuel injection ? And get a good sounding cam without spending a fortune on the fuel injection.
The car is SD , I called a local junk yard today and can get a ECU and wiring harness for 100.00 , what else will I need besides a MAF sensor to get it converted.
Can I get a good sounding cam and make it work on MAF and idle good all thje time ?

Any ideas and help would be appreciated

Chad

My budget is around 2500.00 , I dont want to go over that. And I will do all the labor myself except machine work.

I'am just rebuilding the engine is all , the car has a 4:10 gear and a tremec 3550 trans , flowmasters with cross over , bbk shorty headers , underdrive pulleys.
I just want a good sounding street car .

if you want to go with a hydraulic roller cam i say buy thishttp://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=EDL%2D2221&autoview=sku

if if you just want flat.........hhttp://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=EDL%2D7122&autoview=skuydralic s

If a street car is what your going after you want to keep the fuel injection. I'm a carb guy, but my car isn't going to be a daily driver. You want the gas mileage of EFI from the sounds of it

you can't really do anything with the SD.... spend the money now and convert to MAF then throw an Ecam in it.... it'll sound a little better but won't kill your pocket.

if staying EFI, just buy the damn Holley or trickflow kit, heads, cam, and intake complete kit for around $2500.
if going carbed, buy some trickflow or afr heads, a good cam, good intake and carb and your set

If you want to stay EFI, you'll have to buy a MAF kit. You can buy the ECU at autozone and take you stock one back in the same box and get an upgrade for free. At least I have heard of other people doing that...

You can also have a custom chip burned for your SD kit with the upgrade you make and it will work fine, but for every other modification you make, you'll need another tuning session.
