Question About Wiring Speakers

I couldn't get an answer to this on another forum so I thought I'd try here if someone can help. I need 2 new front dash speakers for my truck, they look like 6x9's but about half the size. I'm thinking they are 4x6's but not sure. Which kind should I get that sound really good for under $100?

Another question i have is: How do you hook up 4 speakers and 2 tweeters (total 6 speakers) to an aftermarket radio that only hooks up to 4 speakers. I'm thinking that's why these front dash speakers blew in the first place because I think the guy before me wired the tweeters and front dash speakers together at the radio.

I heard this was wrong and can mess stuff up. If so, is there a correct way to wire all 6 to the radio without getting a seperate amplifier?

crutchfield is high as giraffe pussy....go with memphis 4x6 plate speakers...and if you are wanting to run a seperate tweeter you cant just hook it in with the others you need a crossover or a capacitor so it doesnt get low freq. sent to it ....when you try to play bass through a tweet it WILL blow...i would get a stereo shop to get you some caps for the 4x6's and the tweeters....they will know what you need ....I forget the numbers on them you can get them from any electronics store like radio shack and they are less than a couple bucks each and will save your speakers

I have the "no bass thing going to the speakers" under control, I have subs for base. I was more looking at the fact that the 2 front dash speakers, and the tweeters are wired in parallel. I heard somewhere that this is bad. Just to be more clear, the front dash and the tweeters are wired to the front left and front right outputs on the radio. The back dash are wire to the rear left and rear right outputs. Is this a correct way of wiring them?

Yeah thats correct way to blow them up.....the louder you turn the radio the more bass you send to the tweets and 4x6's you say you have that under control the no bass thing....i didnt hear anything about capacitors or crossovers just wires speakers and radio....yeah that will work ok but why not spend a couple of bucks to cap of the speakers where they only play the highs your stereo will sound alot better and you will be able to turn it up more with out distortion.....distortion is usually caused by tweeters or mids trying to play at full range ex: hooked strait to your head deck....it will work but it will distort or blow at high volumes ....spend a couple bucks on caps and buy you some memphis, jbl =inexpensive or dyn, polk, or mb quart= expensive but the best....and you will have a loud great sounding stereo....sorry for long post but this is what i do....lol

I think I might not be explaining my question good enough. I do have capacitors to block the bass already. My question is, is it a good idea or bad idea to wire 4 speakers to 2 speaker outputs. I might be wrong but i heard that when you wire the speakers this way, instead of running them on their own dedicated channel, that it changes ohmage or something like that and messes stuff up. What do you guys think????????????

Can you hear me now? lol j/k thanks guys for all the help

i don't think it would change the oms at all...it would just draw to much power out of the cd deck....

no it will not draw too much power off the deck and if you wire them in series they will be fine if you have the caps you are good to go.....if you are not using an amp you can even bridge a head deck and run the speakers series (most people dont know you can bridge head decks but yes its true) just remember distortion is not cool....its better to run things at higher wattage and lower volume ex: turn the gain on the amp up and the volume on the head deck down it gives you better sound quality....but to answer your question in short form YES the way you have it is perfectly fine and will not hurt anything....

If you wire them in series the ohms double and you get less power and unequal distribution of power over the front and rear channels resulting in the transistors in the deck cooking. If you wire them in parallel you half the ohms and put more power through both speakers. Most decks are not made to operate at 2 ohms and you will blow the speakers and deck if not made for it (also you'd need 2 ohm rear speakers to balance things).

The only correct way to do this is to get a crossover that splits the highs and lows into two separate channels without changing ohms. Then you wire from the deck to the crossover and send the highs to the tweeters and lows to the door speakers

Judging by how you are wording your questions about wiring you speakers it sounds to me like you should just pay a pro to hook it up..

ok i used to be in the car audio industry installing and competeing here is what u want..here is a good sight to look up google USACI then go to the forum and look in the classifieds u will find good used stuff for sale alot od dealers sell their stuff on there. but u need to get some crossovers that u wire coming from the amp or deck the it will filter out the base for the tweeters and keep it in for the woofers if u get coaxes u dont need to get tweeters but the component kit will sound better.. i reccommend pioneer... if anyone needs any audio help pm me if i can answer it i know someone who can...

Stereos add weight and weight sucks. I have no stereo... Even if I did I could not hear it anyway. It would cost me over a grand to put system in it that I can hear. At that point I would rather spend that money to make it faster and louder.. Who needs a fuckin stereo in a Mustang... The sweet sweet sound of a highly modded small block Ford is the best sound ever heard!!!!!
