351 swap

i have a 90 stang 2.3 with an automatic and i plan on swapping a 351w (carbbed )and possibly a t5 manual. is thier any major concerns about the swap i should know about? also would it be worth dropping in a tubular k memeber for this swap? besides bigger brakes, subframes, 8.8 rear end, and a heavy duty suspension is thier any mods needed to be done to the body to handle a swap like this?

Pretty easy and straight forward swap. You will need an oil pan specific to a Mustang which is available anywhere. Moroso and Canton make good oil pans. You will need a double hump crossmember from a V8 87-93 Mustang and a set of headers specific to a 351W in a Mustang. Various header companies make headers for the swap. Kooks, BBK and Hooker are a few of them. 5 liter motor mounts will work. A tubular K-member is definitely worth it. They are lighter, stronger and free up alot of extra room. Weight wise a 351W is only 65lbs heavier than a 302.

which automatic should i got with for this swap, will a aod hold up to this engine, i plan on doing a bm shift pak among a few other small upgrades, the engine was pulled from a 86 f-150 that was used to pull horse trailers. it got only 78,000 on it and it stock, i plan to do a a plain rebuild of the motor and bore it and put upgraded pistons and rods, i want to keep the engine close to stock but would like to upgrade the internals mildly so i dont have to rip it out when i want to start the bolt ons later down the line, what would you consider doing for internals, and whats better forged or hyperuetetic pistons?

As long as you don't make alot of power an AOD should hold up.

What you use for internal engine components depends on what your goals are with the car, whether you plan to drive it on the street alot and how much horsepower you want to make with it.

"Something under 500hp" is very vague. Hyperuetetic pistons will work at lower horspower levels as long as you don't use nitrous, turbos or blowers. Forged pistons are better but for a low horsepower low budget build hyperuetetic pistons are the way to go. A stock crank and rods will work just fine, just make sure you have them checked for straightness and cracks. Heads will depend on how much power you want to make. There are alot of options out there. Cams and intakes have many options as well. Everything needs to work together for the best performance.

the motor is gonna start out as stock, it will only have a cam, intake and carb, i plan later down the line for heads, i dont plan on going crazy with hp, i dont mind being at stock hp, i just want the internals pre built for when i want to upgrade the powerhouse to without haveing to pull the motor and rebuilt it entirely, 500hp is a lil dramatic but it would take years to reach that level, it will slowly rise as each bolt on is added. im looking for just over stock, not a drag strip 110 octane sunday fun car. this would be something i can drive all summer long.

ive been reading alot on this cuz im real interested in a 393, but dunno with emissions in my state. i prolly wouldnt be able to get the best parts for the motor and still pass. wanted to make 400 to the wheel with no power adder. but might have to go back to my 1st idea which was a 306/blower. anyways i figured id post some links to help..
