Yes both O2 sensors need to be hooked up. they work together in read exhaust gas and it wont run right if only one is reading. And it will blow the other one preatty damn fast

My 88 ran best with both O2 sensors disconnected back when it had SD. A little rich at idle, but a lot meaner between 1500 and 3000 rpms.

Exactly the only thing its going to do its what Ryan said is make it run leaner with I guess would deliver for gas to the motor but wont give you anymore HP

If you have intake and head upgrades, sometimes it actually helps out not having the O2 sensors connected on a SD system...but yeah, in general they should be hooked up if you want decent gas mileage.
