Subaru WRX v. 5.0.. Stang hates snow and rain time for a 2nd car?

I have a 94 mustang gt covert with some work done to it but it crys in the snow and rain with little to no traction.
I have to drive in the snow alot this year for school. I get my assoc. degree in 3 weeks then i am going for my BA. I am going to live at school but I have a weekend job that is 40 miles away. I get paid decent enough for the hassel. I found a 2000 subaru wrx with 80K on it for 10,000.00. I have 10k cash to spend.

I dont know much about these at all. How are insurance rates? How fast are they i.e. will they beat my mustang a 350Z etc etc. Whats the difference in model years such as do some years have larger motors, higher crash ratings, more problems then others?

Another huge thing I am looking at is gas mileage. I get about 14 16 mpg with my mustang. What will i get with a WRX? Thanks for the advice.

1. Insurance rates will be slightly more than your Mustang because the car is newer.
2. They are pretty fast, running 14 second 1/4 mile times and 0-60 in the mid 5 second range.
3. The WRX will get approximately 18-20mpg city, and 22-24 mpg hwy.
4. It will be a good winter car with the AWD, but make sure you some good tires on it for the winter.

Maybe you could find one a little cheaper, and spend some of the remaining money on steel wheels & actual snow & ice tires. You wouldn't believe the difference an actual snow & ice tire can make over even the best all season tire.

The WRX will get around 25 MPG. The regualr WRX is not that fast might beat your mustang by a little bit but only cause its AWD. But if it was a STI WRX it would beat you by alot. Im not a personal fan of the WRX I think they are ugly. What I would do if I where you is buy a ceap winter beater car for 2500 bucks or so. Then save the rest in mods for your mustang. I live in Northern Michigan so snow is a big problem the stangs wont even move in how much snow we get. So I have a old 95 F-150 for the winter. But I would rather have one beater for the winter and a nice car in the summer. Because the salt in the winter rusts out the Mustangs anyway

I dont want to get a beeter that will break down I had that problem before. Snow wise how deep can I drive one of these in? I want something that is nice looking and has alor of style like a mustang but that I can drive in the snow and safer in the rain. I hate driving my mustang in the rain. I drove it in the snow today and it was really bad.

WRX is only good in the snow because it is AWD and by beater I dont mean something that will break down. i got my old pickup that has never failed me 190K miles on her and she doesnt miss a beat I drive it 8 hours from home to Indianapolis

But if it was my choice pass on the WRX and find just a FWD car to drive around in the winter Where eexactly do you live in the US because im sure you can get around with reliable FWD car and spend alot less than 10K wich is to much for a WRX in the first place.

Yeah you can get a 99 F-150 4X4 for that. Thats an idea or a 96 or so and save 5K for mods to the stang

ive been looking at talon tsi's lately. they are awd, turboed, and can keep up with a stang pretty easily. and they are 3-5k. look at craigslist for them.
