ATF Fluid in T5 Transmission? From Tech Article

Just read the Tech article ont he T5 swap and the writer mentions putting ATF fluid in the T5? Will Automatic Transmission fluid harm the bearings etc. I assumed gear oil would be used? I will be putting my T5 in shortly and want to use the best fluid. Thanks

All T5s use ATF. There aren't many transmissions that use gear lube anymore. Some Chrysler manual transmissions use 5w30 motor oil.

A lot of guys seem to think ATF won't properly lube their gears and bearings in a manual tranny. There are gears and bearins in Autos also!
I made the mistake of putting Full Syn oil in a Tremec 4sp manul W/Brass syncros. After a couple of thousand miles it would no longer shift without using a lot of force. The Syn wouln't let the brass grab the steel gear. I took the tranny apart and absolutly nothing wrong, just wrong oil.
The old steel case Top Loaders use gear oil.

I agree. I was trying to explain why synthetic oil could be a bad Idea.
Horseshoeing has a 66. It came with a toploader unless a T-5 was swaped in.

I put synthetic in my t-5 and it would not shift and had to drain it and replace it with some cheep pepboys atf and than it shifted. Just trying to save you people some headaches.

BLAH-BLAH-BLAH

SOME KNUCKLE HEAD DELETED MY POST IN THE CLUB HOUSE! What a load of shhheeeeaaaatt.

ATF was used only to create less drag. The old models used the thicker 90W lube because it was better in terms of vicosity break down, and no one gave a rat's ass about economy.

Anyway my thread in off topic was about this fricking BS website for Mercedes. It was a good thread and you were all robbed of a good time!

Here is what a camaro owner said about the Anti-American Mercedes site-

"nice car. and im sure that the mecedes owners are far too intelligent for us Americans... haha (Sarcasm)" AuSStin - Camaroforums.com

I thought it was funny.

That has to do with why the T5's got ATF instead of 90w.

Duh... Are we a little slow tonight? You been hanging out in the treehouse in the drunk thread a little too long bud-bud?

Hello Newbe, in our little corner of the internet we like to keep things on topic and if we (mods) don't see that things stay on topic they tend to get....gone. Sorry for any inconvience.

Back to your T-5 topic....
