Methanol Injection Kits on 5.0?

Hey guys i just resently heard and found out aboue Methanol Injection Kits, apparently is quite cheap and gets ya some desent boost and runs cooler then NOS? Now i just heard about this so i could be wrong, but i was just woundering if any of you know anything about it and if its worth it, the kit's run around $200. and you can by the Methanol in a 5 gal. for about $25! (and 50/50 it with water, i believe) But yeah it looks cheap if ya wanna have a little extra fun. But i really know nothing about it. So i am just interested in your opinion and how it runs in 5.0's, etx.

There's this artical here if anyone wants to look at it, i just found it. Its a install on a 04' Cobra i think. Even the pics alone gave me alittle info. It looks interesting and money saving, but whats your opinion?

Yeah methanol injection is for cooling the intake charge and raising the fuel octane when you already have a supercharger or turbo, it isn't going to make you any faster running it by itself.

There ARE N/A meth kits, but im with ryan, they arent nearly as beneficial as the setups used with additional poweradders.

Like the others have stated, methanol does not give you power, it reduces the chance of pre-ignition by cooling the incoming air and increasing the octane of the fuel charge. With the reduced chance of pre-ignition, you can tune your car more aggressively to get more power. What is "more aggresive" for a NA motor? Not much at all. You can bump up your timing a little and if you have a high compression motor, using methanol might allow you to buy cheaper gas? Is any potential gain you get from bumping up the timing worth the cost of the methanol system? Maybe.

Where methanol can really help is with cars that are close to pre-ignition but have the ability to make more power safely if the chance for pre-ignition could be reduced. Basically meaning, pre-igntion is the only thing holding the car back from making more power. An example would be a SC or turbo. Say at 15# boost, you start to get pre-ignition but the rest of your engine and the compressor is capable of handling 20#. Methanol can help as it will cool the incoming charge (which is probably over 250F at 15#) and increase the ocatane, putting you further from pre-ignition. Now you can increase your boost to 20# getting more power and you are not getting pre-ignition. Same concept with a boost retard module for boosted engines, you may get pre-ignition running at 1.5 degree retard per pound but with methanol, you may be able to run at 0.5 degree per pound giving you more power. Of course if that methanol system has a glitch while your pushing 20# or running at 0.5 retard, there goes your engine starting with the pistons. That is why some methanol kits are more expensive then others, some are more fail safe then others.
