Help building my 86 lx 5.0

Hello everyone,

I am starting the project of building my 86 lx coupe and need help with determining how to build the short block as well as what cam and heads I should use. First of all I will be driving this car often so street ability is important. I would like to get above 350hp or more if possible without going broke in the process. My questions are:
Where is the limit to using stock rod and pistons?
What would be my best choice of cam and heads combination?
The car is a 5spd and converted to mass air. Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Just buy a 331 or 347 blueprinted and balanced from CHP and call it a day.. I think its like 2300 and you wont have to deal with a machine shop and wonder if they really did this and did that. Unless of course you have a really really good hook-up with one.. Yeah we balanced your motor give us 300+ extra bucks.. You will never know if it was done unless you disassemble the block...

350 your gonna need more than just a Trick flow top end kit.

Since you have and 86 you cant just swap heads on you need new pistons because the ones in 86 are flat top and wont take wedge heads.

I suggest a 347 stroker from Eagle rotating assembly. If you are going to buy a block too the Boss 302 block from Ford racing. AFR heads, Custom grind cam from Comp cams, Trick flow street heat or Holley intake 30# injectors and a MAF cinversion also calibrated to 30#injectors.
