Engine building tech Q
A question for those who have experience with building street/strip engines..
is it correct that if you have a hypereutectic piston then you should hone the cylinder bore so the piston to wall clearance is between .0015" & .002" while if you use a forged piston then you must set the clearance between .003" to .005" max depending on the induction system (N/A or Forced), and on the ambient temperature when measurements are taken? considering 70 degrees F as the ideal benchmark I don't know how many enthusiasts or professionals are into engine building but I'm trying.. and thanks!! |

All pistons come with a spec sheet with clearance and where to measure the clearance in the bore. This is a general guideline. With any power adder experience will tell the proper piston to wall, piston to pin and bearing clearance. When you have your machine work done take all pistons and the spec sheet to the machine shop and they will fit the pistons to each individual bore and mark them 1, 2, 3, etc.
